My name is Daniel Minahan and I am a grad student in the School of Mathematics at Georgia Tech . I am interested in geometric group theory, algebraic geometry and low dimensional topology. My advisor is Dan Margalit. Outside of math, I enjoy puzzles, cooking, lifting, and board games.

Finiteness of the second rational homology of the Torelli group (
Arxiv)
This paper answers a longstanding open question in the study of mapping class groups of surfaces. The Torelli group of a closed, oriented surface is the subgroup of the mapping class group that acts trivially on the first homology of the surface. We show that the second rational homology of the Torelli group, is finite dimensional for all closed oriented surfaces of sufficiently large genus.
